Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility
  • I have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease/Parkinson's disease but do not receive Old Age Living Allowance/live in public housing. Can I participate in the scheme?

We hope to give priority to helping people with relatively poor financial conditions, but we still recommend that you submit an application and we will handle it on a case-by-case basis.

  • Can I participate in the scheme if I receive CSSA?

No, because the Social Welfare Department provides subsidized dental services to CSSA recipients. For details, please contact the Social Welfare Department, the elderly center, or a social worker.

  • I have had a cognitive assessment, can it be used as proof of diagnosis?

No, cognitive assessment documents will not be regarded as proof of diagnosis. The proof of diagnosis needs to be a doctor’s diagnosis document issued by a registered western medicine doctor, or a medicine bag for taking cognitive impairment/Parkinson drugs. The certificate must also show the participant’s Name.

  • I have participated in this plan/other dental plans of Yingai before. Can I join the plan again?

No, we hope to reserve the places for those in greater need.

Dental Services
  • The distance from me to Loving Smiles Dental Centre is very long. Are there clinics located in other areas?

Considering regional issues, we can arrange for participants to receive dental services at 3 partner clinics (Central, Mong Kok, and Sheung Shui).

  • How long do I need to wait before seeing a dentist after a successful application?

If your application is successful, you can see a dentist in 1 to 2 weeks at the earliest.

  • Does the plan include dentures?

The plan does not cover dentures and other more complex dental services (such as dental implants, root scaling, etc.), but if participants need it, they can ask the dentist for a quote and then decide whether to use the service at their own expense.

  • Is there an upper limit on the number of fillings and tooth removals?

    There is no upper limit.

  • Is there an upper limit on the number of visits?

Most patients only need to visit the doctor once to complete the treatment, but some patients have more serious dental problems and need to make an appointment for a second or even third time for treatment. However, they can only apply for transportation subsidy for a maximum of 2 times, and all treatments also require It must be completed within 6 months (calculated from the first visit). If it is overdue, you will need to pay for it yourself.

  • Caregiver question: What should I do if my family member is unwilling to ask the dentist to check?

Loving Smiles's dentists have extensive experience in examining the teeth of people with special needs (including people with dementia and Parkinson’s disease). They will use different methods to help patients open their mouths. If the situation is more complicated, the dentist will also consider using conscious sedation to help the patients open their mouths. .

Fare Subsidy
  • I take Uber or RehabBus to the clinic, can I apply for fare subsidy?

No, we only accept taxi machine-printed receipts.

  • I took a wheelchair taxi to the clinic but only had a handwritten receipt. Can I apply for taxi fare subsidy?

Yes, considering that some participants have limited mobility and need to take wheelchair taxis, we accept handwritten receipts from wheelchair taxis (but only handwritten receipts issued by Diamond Cab ).

  • In what form will the fare subsidy be disbursed?

When you arrive at the clinic, the receptionist will provide you with an application form and a self-addressed envelope for taxi fare subsidy. Please send the machine-printed receipt and application form for the two-way taxi back to Yingai. We will send a check back to the recipient's address after processing.
